Image Appliance

Quick and Easy Image Correction

Do you have a large or increasing volume of satellite imagery for Canada, but limited capacity and resources to use it?

The Image Appliance is a unique and special set of technology and services designed to provide cost-effective, fully automatic processing for medium and low resolution sensors over the Canadian landmass.

Use the data—you paid for it!

Many organizations in Canada have invested in large archives of raw SPOT, Landsat, Radarsat and other low and medium resolution sensor types. Large data volumes are often difficult and expensive to process manually, on time, and on schedule.

Without rapid processing for “map-accurate” results, your data may as well be locked away forever.

Uncork your processing bottleneck!

Solution

The Image Appliance is designed for anyone with basic computer skills and contains all the elements, including reference data, to automatically correct many types of Canadian imagery—with almost no user interaction. Also included is the PCI OGC compliant web coverage server, enabling easy publishing of imagery to the geospatial web.

Benefits

  • Simple and easy to install and use, designed for the everyday user.
  • Minimal user interaction required—everything in five easy steps.
  • Supports ten medium and low resolutions satellites, including SPOT 4/5, Landsat 5/7, Radarsat/ Radarsat II, Aster, ASAR, IRS, ERS, Cartosat I.
  • Comes with all necessary elevation models, Ground Control and reference data for Canada (GeoBase).
  • Standards based, includes an OGC Complaint WCS with ISO 19139 metadata support for connecting to the Geospatial Web.
  • Supports over 100 file formats.

How is this possible?

Only five steps require user interaction:

  1. Use the simple GUI to locate your raw imagery.
  2. Specify the output directory.
  3. Choose your map projection.
  4. Select your output file format.
  5. Click ‘Run’.

The Image Appliance automatically:

  • determines the type of imagery you are using
  • imports the data into the system
  • builds a mathematical sensor model from the input data
  • collects ground control points from reference Landsat7 images, and road-networks
  • generates ortho-images from your data and a supplied DEM
  • trims the DEM to your image extents
  • saves the corrected results where you want, in the format you want.

The Image Appliance includes:

  • The Image Appliance itself.
  • OGC compliant Web Coverage Server (WCS) technology for sharing results online, with eight hours of online and telephone consulting for set-up and deployment.
  • Geomatica Freeview for viewing your results.
  • GeoBase Ground control points, National Road Network, CDED Elevation Model and Landsat 7 reference imagery.
